چکیده

Primary tumours of the heart are rare (Prichard, 1951; Hudson, 1965; Heath, 1968) and particularly uncommon is the intramural ventricular fibroma; only 36 cases had been reported up to 1967 (Geha, Weidman, Soule, and McGoon, 1967). Most of these intramural fibromas were found in infants and young children at either necropsy or thoracotomy, but over the past 15 years the diagnosis has been made before operation and in a few patients successful surgical removal has been accomplished (Parks, Adams, and Longmire, 1962; Geha et al., 1967; Bjork, Dahlgren, Rudhe, Zetterqvist, 1967; Kay et al., 1968; Osano et al., 1969). Because of the rarity of these tumours Freeman, Geer, Randall, and Palfrey (1963) suggested that cases should be reported in order to increase knowledge of their natural history, diagnosis, and treatment. The case described here is that of a young girl with a large intramural fibroma of the left ventricle, diagnosed preoperatively, who died at operation.

Primary intramural fibroma of the left ventricle with a late apparent symptomatology.

We report a case of a 13-year-old girl who was admitted to the emergency department with syncope. She had been diagnosed in infancy with a large intramural fibroma of the left ventricle, but had been free of any clinical symptoms during the last decade. The patient underwent a thorough and detailed clinical and imaging study. We discuss the contribution of new non-invasive imaging modalities to...

Intramural Ventricular Cardiac Fibroma

Two cases in which large intramural ventricular cardiac fibromas were successfully removed from children are reported. In one the fibroma was principally septal, and in the other it lay in the free wall of the left ventricle. These are the second and third such operations reported. A review of these two cases plus 34 other reported cases of cardiac fibroma indicates that a primary mural tumor o...

Cardiac fibroma resulting in fatal ventricular arrhythmia.

Apreviously well and asymptomatic 6-year-old boy collapsed at school. He was initially asystolic but was resuscitated to sinus rhythm. Then, during transport to the hospital, he developed monomorphic ventricular tachycardia (Figure 1). Transthoracic echocardiography demonstrated a huge, homogeneous intramural mass in the left ventricular free wall, possibly also involving the left atrial wall, ...

Fibroma of the left ventricle in a patient with Sotos syndrome.

Primary tumors of the heart are rare, with an incidence between 0.001% and 0.33% in autopsy findings, and with fibromas representing about 4% of benign cardiac tumors. We report the case of a cardiac fibroma in a 5-year-old child affected by Sotos syndrome. The mean sign was a ventricular tachycardia.

Conservative management of a left ventricle cardiac fibroma in an asymptomatic child patient.

Primary cardiac tumors in infancy and childhood are rare and usually benign. Fibroma is the second most common bening cardiac tumor after rhabdomyoma. Surgery is required when fibromas cause ventricular outflow tract obstruction, ventricular dysfunction and life-threatening arrhythmia. This case report describes a 9-year-old asymptomatic male presenting with a giant left ventricular cardiac fib...
